Options by network: first comment, alt text, collaborators, music and mentions

Each network has its own options in the Preview step of a post: first comment on Instagram and Facebook, alt text and up to 3 collaborators on Instagram, automatic music on TikTok photo posts and mentions of company pages on LinkedIn. You fill them in by hand, network by network, and they are included in all plans.

Where they are

Open a post and go to the Preview step. On the left you see how it will look on each network; on the right, what you can adjust on that network. Each network has its own fields: what you write in one is not copied to the others.

  • Changes save on their own, with no save button.
  • You fill in these options yourself. ōrbita does not write them when it drafts the proposals.
  • If the post is already scheduled, unschedule it to be able to change them. What has already been published on a network cannot be edited.
  • If something in this step has an error, the tab marks it with «Review» and you will not be able to schedule until you fix it.

The five options in this guide are included in all plans.

First comment

A comment that ōrbita publishes for you right after the post. It is useful for leaving a link, a call to action or the hashtags without cluttering the main text.

Network In which types of post Maximum length
Instagram Feed, Carousel and Reel. Not in Stories. 2,200 characters
Facebook Feed, Carousel and Link. Not in Reel or Stories. 8,000 characters

How to use it:

  1. In the network’s column, turn on the First comment switch.
  2. Write the text. The counter tells you how much you have written.

It is one text per network: the Instagram one and the Facebook one are written separately. If you turn the switch off, the text is deleted.

What happens when it is published:

  • ōrbita publishes the post first and, a few seconds later, the comment.
  • If the comment fails, the post does not fail. The post stays published and you will see a note on that network: «Published, but the first comment was not. You can add it by hand on Instagram.» (or on Facebook). ōrbita does not retry it or notify you by email: add it yourself on the network.
  • On Instagram the comment needs the comments permission of your connection. If you connected Instagram a while ago and the comment does not appear, reconnect the account from Company settings > Connections.

The first comment on LinkedIn is not yet open to all companies. YouTube has its own options in the YouTube guide.

Alt text on Instagram

It is the description of the image that screen readers read out.

  • It appears only on Instagram, in a Feed post with a single image. It is not in Carousel, Reel or Stories, nor when the file is a video.
  • The field is called Image alt text and accepts up to 1,000 characters.
  • It is optional. As the field itself says, if you leave it empty Instagram generates one automatically.

It is written by hand: there is no button in ōrbita that writes it. If you have your agent connected, you can ask it to write it.

Instagram collaborators

You invite other accounts to sign the post with you. As the field explains, if the collaborator accepts the invitation, the post also appears on their profile.

  • Available in Feed, Carousel and Reel. Not in Stories.
  • Up to 3 collaborators per post.
  • They must be professional or creator accounts.

How to add them:

  1. In Collaborators, type the username. It does not matter whether you include the @ or not.
  2. Press Enter or Add. The user stays as a tag you can remove with the X.

ōrbita checks only the format of the name: letters, numbers, period and underscore, up to 30 characters. It does not check that the account exists, so make sure it is spelled correctly. Nor does it show whether the other account has accepted: that is seen on Instagram.

Collaborators travel with the post itself. If Instagram rejects them, the post fails on Instagram and you will see it in that network’s status, like any other publishing failure.

Automatic music on TikTok

On TikTok you choose the Post type: Video or Photo Mode, which is the photo post. Automatic music is an option of Photo Mode.

  • The switch is called Add music automatically and arrives turned on.
  • With it on, ōrbita asks TikTok to put a track from its catalogue on your photos. You cannot choose the song from ōrbita; you can change it afterwards in the TikTok app.
  • It does not appear on a Video: the video carries its own sound.

In the same TikTok column, before the music, are the network’s other options:

  • Interaction: Allow comments and, on videos, Allow duets and Allow stitches. They arrive unticked: tick the ones you want to allow. If your TikTok account has any of them turned off, it appears in grey and cannot be changed from ōrbita.
  • Content disclosure: turn it on if the post promotes a brand, a product or a service, and say whether it is Your brand, Branded content or both.
  • Post privacy: it is mandatory. TikTok requires you to choose it on every post, and without it you cannot schedule.

Mentions on LinkedIn

In the text of a LinkedIn post you can mention a company page so that it appears linked.

  1. Type @ in the text, or tap Mention below it.
  2. Type the end of the page’s address on LinkedIn, or paste the whole address. For the page linkedin.com/company/orbitaorg, the end is orbitaorg.
  3. ōrbita shows you the page that matches that address. Check that it is the right one and tap Insert mention.

Things to keep in mind:

  • You cannot search by name. LinkedIn does not let other applications search for pages by name: the address is needed.
  • The ones you have already mentioned do appear by name. ōrbita remembers the pages you have mentioned in that company and suggests them as you type.
  • An @ typed by hand does not mention anyone. It is published as normal text. The mention has to be inserted from the search.
  • In the text, the mention shows as the page’s name in colour and is deleted whole, not letter by letter.
  • If a mention ends up broken, ōrbita warns you: «Broken mention: it will be published as plain text». Delete it and insert it again. The post does not fail because of this.
  • Mentions work in the post text. They are not available in polls or when sharing someone else’s post.

Mentioning people is only possible among the followers of a company page connected to ōrbita, and today the LinkedIn connection available to everyone is the personal profile one.

Other options in this step

In the same step each network also has its post type, its time and its cover. Which formats each network accepts is in Connect social networks and publish, and all the YouTube settings are in its guide.
