Why verify the listing
Verifying means showing Google that the business is yours and that you manage it. In ōrbita you will notice it like this: while the listing is not verified you can edit the listing’s details, hours and photos, but Google will not show those changes until you verify the listing. What you save stays saved and shows up once Google considers the listing verified.
Google does the verification, not ōrbita. ōrbita cannot verify the listing for you or speed the process up: it sends you to Google and, when you finish there, reads the result.
What ōrbita shows you
In Connections, under the Google Business Profile row, the button Ver y editar tu ficha de Google (view and edit your Google listing) opens the “Tu ficha de Google” screen. At the top, next to your business name, you see one of two labels:
- VERIFICADA (verified): Google already shows your listing and your changes.
- SIN VERIFICAR (not verified): below it there is a notice, “Tu ficha no está verificada”, with a Verificar en Google button (it opens business.google.com) and a link to this guide.
While the listing is not verified, ōrbita also reminds you when you save or upload photos: “Saved. It will show on Google once you verify the listing”.
There is a second, different notice: “Google is reviewing your changes”. It appears when you changed the name, the address or the main category and Google is still reviewing them. Meanwhile, Google keeps showing the previous value. And if you change the listing’s name, ōrbita warns you that Google may ask you to verify the listing again.
How to verify, step by step
These are the steps of Google’s official help (Verify your Business Profile); Google can change them, and its page is the authority.
- Go to business.google.com and sign in with the Google account that manages the listing.
- In your Business Profile, select Get verified.
- Choose one of the methods Google offers and follow the steps. Google decides which methods you get and you cannot change them; some businesses need more than one.
- Once you complete the steps, Google reviews the verification. It emails you when it is done.
The methods Google may offer
- Phone or text: you get a code by call or text message and enter it in your profile. An automated answering system (IVR) does not receive the code, so you need to answer yourself.
- Email: you use the address shown on the verification screen and follow the instructions in the email.
- Postcard: Google mails a 5-digit code. Most arrive within 14 days and the code expires after 30 days. Not every business is eligible.
- Live video call: only available during your location’s business hours, and not offered to every business.
- Video recording: Google recommends it if your business is eligible; its help has a separate guide.
- Search Console: if you verify your website with Google Search Console, verification can be instant. Bulk verification too.
If you choose a postcard
- Do not edit the name, address or category of the listing while you wait: it invalidates the code.
- Do not request a new code if it is late: the previous one is voided, Google sends another and the process gets longer.
After verifying
Google’s review can take up to 5 business days, and rare cases take longer. When it finishes you get a confirmation email.
ōrbita reads the listing from Google every time you open “Tu ficha de Google”, so when you come back you will see the VERIFICADA label. What you saved while it was unverified shows on Google from then on; you do not need to repeat the photo or the change of hours.
If it does not work
- The “Get verified” button comes back in your Google profile: Google could not complete the verification. Try again, or try another method if it offers several.
- The code does not arrive: check that you can answer the business phone or receive the text, that the email is reachable, or that the postal address is right. If no method works, Google’s own help points you to its support.
- Google asks for more information (usually after recent business detail updates): select Get verified and repeat the process.
- Your video is not accepted: Google shows a “Review issues” notification; open it and follow the on-screen instructions.
Who it is for
The Google listing screen in ōrbita is in the Satellite, Star and Galaxy plans. To see the listing you only need access to the company; changing its details needs Admin level. How your agent connects to ōrbita is in the connector guide.
