SEO (search engine optimization)

Updated Author: Mónica Lorenzo

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the work of making a website appear in the results of Google and other search engines without paying for ads, thanks to its content, its technical health and the trust other sites place in it.

The three parts of SEO

  • Technical: the search engine can crawl and index the site (speed, correct HTML, sitemap, canonical, no content hidden behind JavaScript).
  • Content: pages that answer what people search for, with clear titles and useful, unique text.
  • Authority: links and mentions from other trusted sites, reviews and presence in directories.

SEO and GEO

AI assistants retrieve pages the search engines have already indexed, so SEO is the foundation of GEO. What GEO adds is the format: a direct answer, data with a source, a visible date.

SEO and social media

Posting on social media does not rank your website by itself, but it builds brand, branded searches and links. For a local business, the Google Business Profile listing is the most rewarding piece of local SEO, and ōrbita publishes to it and measures its appearances and actions.

Also known as: Search Engine Optimization, web positioning, organic ranking.
